“Our hospital partners expect us to be vigilant in promoting blood product safety while ensuring an adequate supply for our local patients,” said Martin Grable, president and CEO of CBCC. “OTIS is a powerful tool for process improvement and for helping us be efficient and compliant with regulatory requirements.”

OTIS features a plug-and-play quality management system to help blood banks and laboratories improve quality, boost efficiency and facilitate compliance. Some features include: a virtual scanner; ad hoc queries; a status code system and LED-like indicators to visually verify completion of each investigative step; alerts with FDA deadlines; and data export capabilities.

“We started using OTIS in September and it has already contributed to the management and tracking of quality metrics,” said CBCC Quality Assurance Director Deanne M. Wells, MLT (ASCP) and CQA (ASQ). “We have moved on from using a quality management system that wasn’t designed for blood banks and have consolidated three databases into one through OTIS, making process improvement seamless, fast and evidence-based!”

OTIS installs quickly, is intuitive and comes preloaded with FDA biological product deviation (BPD) codes and other components to get started. Users are also able to optimize the system. In addition, OTIS’ virtual scanner enables users to scan in the PDFs or Word documents needed to support FDA and AABB inspections and audits.

“We are pleased to have an award-winning blood bank like Community Blood Center of the Carolinas join the OTIS family,” said George Behr, president and founder of Nouvation. “Together we can continue to automate the steps blood-bankers must take to ensure they always ‘do the right thing.’”
