Carol B. Somer, Vice President, Marketing

Carol brings decades of experience working for (and with) healthcare providers, vendors and agencies to her role as VP of Marketing, where she oversees public relations, marketing and business development. Most recently, she was principal of CBS Communications and vice president of corporate marketing for iPaseo Health Partners.

Early in her career, she worked in media and community relations at Boston University Medical Center, producing successful a variety of health-screening events and other programs to promote community health. She later consulted for Rhode Island Medical Center, and managed healthcare and other PR accounts at a large Providence ad agency. Since 1996, Carol has focused on health information technology, helping to position six IT companies for successful exits, and relentlessly advocating for the use of technology to promote safety and quality. As director of corporate communications for Bridge Medical, a patient safety company acquired by Cerner, she forged partnerships with the National Patient Safety Foundation, the Institute for Safe Medication Practices and other advocacy organizations. She now works to promote the use of deviation-tracking-and-trending to drive process improvement in the blood bank and laboratory.

The National Press Club and California Blood Bank Society member recently completed a second stint on the board of Health Care Communicators of San Diego and is a former member of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) and HIMSS. She studied  at Brooklyn College (CUNY), Boston University’s School of Public Communications and the New England School of Art and Design.
