Founded in 1896 by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, St. Mary’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center initially served its community from a small, wood-framed building with 10 hospital beds.
Today, at 350-plus beds, the Grand Junction, Colo., medical center is the largest facility of its kind between Denver and Salt Lake City, providing critical healthcare services to western Colorado and eastern Utah at a level equivalent to that of a large urban hospital or academic medical center.
In 2010, St. Mary’s added a new, 12-story hospital to further enhance patient care, accommodate advanced technologies, and meet the needs of the area’s growing population.
St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center deployed OTIS® in early 2014 to drive process improvement and promote regulatory compliance in the laboratory and transfusion service.
“In all my years in the laboratory, I haven’t encountered software that is as intuitive and easy to use as OTIS,” says Patrick “Pat” McBride, MT(ASCP). At St. Mary’s since 1976, McBride is LIS (Laboratory Information System) coordinator for the hospital’s clinical laboratory.
St. Mary’s is a member of the SCL (Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth) Health System. The faith-based $2.2B nonprofit operates nine hospitals, four safety-net clinics, one children’s mental health center and 190-plus ambulatory service centers in four states.
